Six Quarters
Pre-Professional Phase
Complete 90 quarter hours (two years) of general education and science prerequisites before the professional nursing phase.
Seven Quarters
Professional Nursing Phase
Advance into the professional phase of the BSN program, focusing on core nursing coursework and supervised clinical training with healthcare partners.
Post-Graduation
Graduation & Licensure Eligibility
After completing all program requirements, graduates are prepared to pursue licensure under state guidelines.

Admissions Requirements
for the BSN Program

General Entry to Pre-Professional Phase

To be admitted to South University as a general entry undergraduate student, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Official high school transcripts, GED scores, or International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma required
  • Minimum GGPA of 1.5 on a 4.0 scaleµ
  • International credentials evaluated by a NACES or AICE-member service

Professional Phase

To be considered for progression into the professional phase of the BSN program, applicants must:

  • Completion of 90 quarter hours of science and general education courses with grade C or better (science courses ≤7 years old)
  • Minimum CGPA of 2.75 in prerequisite courses (3.0 required at Columbia campus)
  • GPA ≥ 2.75 in Anatomy, Physiology, Microbiology, Chemistry, and Pathophysiology (3.0 required at Columbia campus) 
  • TEAS test results and approved background checks
  • Completed application and official transcripts from all colleges/universities attended
  • Meet Core Performance Standards as outlined in the catalog

Provisional admission to the professional phase may be granted to students who complete the pre-professional phase. On the day of matriculation into the professional phase, the student must meet all admission criteria as outlined above. Failure to do so will result in the provisional admission being rescinded. In such cases, students may be required to sit out for a term. The University will inform students of available options or next steps prior to final determination.
