South University, Richmond is excited to offer the Virginia Homeschool Dual Enrollment Program for eligible homeschool students to enroll in college-level courses, where they will be taking classes specifically with other homeschool students through the University to dually earn credits for a high school diploma and a postsecondary educational degree. At South University, Richmond, our goal is to be a good local partner and to support homeschool students’ transition from homeschool to college.

About the Virginia Homeschool Dual Enrollment Program

South University's Virginia Homeschool Dual Enrollment Program is an enrichment opportunity allowing eligible homeschool students to earn high school and college credit for courses taken at South University, Richmond while still enrolled in high school.

 

Open enrollment for South University, Richmond’s Virginia Homeschool Dual Enrollment Program is August 19-August 29. Space is limited and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Pre-enrollment meetings to answer student and parent questions will take place the week of August 2 and August 9.

You may be eligible for tuition and fees of:

$90 per credit hour

South University, Richmond in consultation with Virginia homeschool administrators, created an exclusive dual enrollment program just for homeschool families in Virginia, allowing your homeschooler to gain college credit through us at a fraction of the cost. The South University, Richmond Virginia Homeschool Dual Enrollment program offers you classes at $90 per credit hour or $360 total per class! 

 

Students in Virginia Homeschool Dual Enrollment courses are responsible for the cost of tuition, fees, textbooks and materials and supplies as required by each course. Students who fail to pay tuition and fees by the end of the drop/add period may be dropped from course rolls. Eligible Students and their parent/guardian will be notified.

 

Eligible Students will be charged a tuition rate of $90 per credit hour for the dual enrollment courses. The maximum number of courses allowed under Dual Enrollment may vary by program.

If a student elects to enroll in a South University educational program with the DE/DC courses, the student will be charged the current published cost per credit hour for the remaining courses in the educational program once the student completes the DE/DC courses and graduates from high school.

Eligibility Requirements:
  1. Students must satisfy all General Admission requirements as defined within the South University Academic Catalog with the exception of proof of high school graduation or GED completion.

 

  1. Parent/guardian must provide homeschool verification in one of the following ways:
    • For those homeschooling under the home instruction option, as outlined in Virginia statute §22.1-254 (A) - provide a copy of the most recent school year’s Notice of Intent letter submitted to the local school district.
    • For those homeschooling under the religious exemption option, as outlined under Virginia statute § 22.1-254 (B)(1) – provide a copy of the most recent school year’s religious exemption application letter submitted to the student’s local school district.
    • For those homeschooling under the certified tutor option, as outlined under Virginia statute §22.1-254(A) – provide a copy of the most recent school year’s Certified Tutor letter submitted to the student’s local school district.

 

  1. Parent/guardian must provide a copy of the student’s yearly standardized achievement test, which should indicate the student’s grade level at the time of the assessment and academic readiness.
     
  2. Students must be in grade 9, 10, 11, or 12.

 

  1. Students seeking enrollment in Dual Enrollment for Dual Credit coursework must have a minimum cumulative (unweighted) high school grade point average of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale.
     

*Applies only to Dual Enrolled/Dual Credit students enrolled at the Richmond, VA campus of South University.

Eligible homeschool students will take classes via South VR, the Virtual Remote modality, offering a face-to-face, synchronous learning environment utilizing video-conferencing technologies. South University also offers lots of classroom space on our Richmond and Virginia Beach campuses that are available at no cost to homeschool students for classroom learning, pod learning, group collaboration, and other special events. South University can also provide students in our program with tutoring and other mentorship opportunities. 
 
South University, Richmond offers homeschool families/learning pods and students learning space, special event space, and/or virtual schooling space at two campuses in Richmond and VA Beach at no cost to students!
 
After completion of dual enrollment classes, students can pursue to complete their degree through South University, Richmond. Students who qualify can also receive the River City High School Grant toward eligible programs of study.
